In a ruling that allows 70,000 Zantac lawsuits to move forward in Delaware, Judge Vivian Medinilla wrote that the strength of each sides' scientific arguments should be decided by juries.

GSK, Pfizer and Sanofi said in separate statements that they disagreed with the decision and would appeal. They said there was no reliable evidence showing Zantac caused cancer. A spokesperson for Boehringer Ingelheim did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

GSK Issues statement in light of the ruling allowing more than 70,000 Zantac Lawsuits to move forward in Delaware

In a shortened excerpt GSK offered the following rebuttal to the ruling:

GSK plc (LSE/NYSE: GSK) disagrees with the ruling by the Delaware State Court and will immediately seek an appeal. The decision by the State Court contradicts the Federal Court’s MDL ruling under the same legal standard, which dismissed all cases alleging five cancer types, in December 2022.

Preliminary testing by the FDA show some samples of Zantac and Ranitidine contain higher levels of NDMA than food. The concern with NDMA is that it can potentially cause cancer, even in small amounts. The longer the exposure to this carcinogen, the higher the chances are for developing cancer and other health problems such as liver disease. NDMA exposure from Zantac (ranitidine) is linked to sever cancers such as:

All versions of the heartburn drug Zantac (ranitidine) have been pulled from the U.S. market due to possible contamination with a probable cancer-causing chemical, the U.S. Food and Drug administration says. In some ranitidine products, NDMA increases over time and when the drugs are stored at higher temperatures, which may result in people being exposed to unacceptable levels of the chemical, according to the FDA. In December 2019, Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro urged in a letter to the FDA to remove ranitidine from shelves and ban all sales in the United States because of the cancer risk.
